Day 1. Airport Santiago – Hotel – City Tour
We will be awaiting you at the airport of Santiago at the indicated hour. Mayuru Tour is characterized by personal and professional attention with the highest quality standards. Our aim is to fulfill all your requirements at the best on this circuit. We will bring you to your hotel and will start our visit of the beautiful city of Santiago.
City Tour Santiago:
Our city tour will take us to the main attractions of Santiago, enjoying some of the best views over the city and getting to know historical sites like the Cerro Santa Lucia (Mountain Santa Lucia), the Plaza de Armas (market place), the Moneda (government palace) and the central market. We will finish the circuit with a great view from the Cerro San Cristobal. Then we will bring you back to your hotel.
Day 2. Full Day Valparaiso – Viña del Mar
Starting our second day of the tour we leave the hotel in Santiago to drive 120km to the Pacific Ocean. On the way we will appreciate the Valley Curacaví, followed by the Valley Casablanca that is known for the great production of the white wine Souvignon Blanc, among others. We will stop at the guesthouse Millahue to try a glass of the traditional Chicha Chilena.
We will get to Valparaiso (Legislative Capital and main harbor of the country), recently declared National Cultural Heritage by the Unesco. It is a picturesque city that will amaze you with its colorful houses on the hills.
Visiting this city you will get to know the Victorian Square, the Sotomayor Square, the Monument to the Naval Honors of May 21st (from here you can enjoy an excellent view over the beautiful port), and also we will realize a walk on the symbolic Cerro Alegre (Happy Hill), taking various ancient lifts to appreciate the ambience of the city. Afterward you will have time to get to know the house of Pablo Neruda, “La Sebastiana”.
We will continue out tour to Viña del Mar, known of the Garden City. Here you can discover the famous Flower Clock and the Casino, then we will have lunch and afterwards we will take a short walk on the beach. Returning to Santiago we take the chance to visit the Quinta Vergara, the place where every year the International Music Festival takes place. We will finish the tour at your hotel in Santiago.
Day 3. Transfer Hotel – Airport – Moon Valley – Death Valley
Transfer from your hotel to the airport of Santiago to take the flight Santiago – Calama.
We will receive you at the airport in Calama to bring you to San Pedro de Atacama. Here we visit the town, its church and the archaeological museum Parde le Peige. Then we leave for the cordillera of the salt. This mountain range was formed millions of years ago and always has been exposed to the rain, the wind and the sun. It’s a geological phenomenon full of impressive forms made out of salt, plaster and adobe. From a viewing point you will get to appreciate these natural figures covered by a layer of salt.
We will move on to one of the most beautiful natural monuments in the world, the Moon Valley, located close to the cordillera of the salt, 4km west of San Pedro de Atacama. While visiting this mystic valley you will get to see its enormous and impressive sand dunes. The beauty of this place is undeniable, surrounded by small mountains and geological forms that have been created by the wind. Without doubt, you will be surprised by this beautiful paradise that was declared natural monument.
After appreciating this incredible place with its forms and figures of salt we will visit the Death Valley, where we will discover incomparable and majestic landscapes. This valley is another attraction of the driest desert in the world and its mystical ambience is just indescribable. Come and live the magic of this place yourself, it will be an unforgettable experience in your life.
Continuing the tour we will get to the surprising salt statues, known as “Las tres Marias” (“The three Maries”). They are formed out of adobe and salt and are one of the most valued corners of the planet. It results incredible believing that this marvelous landscape was only created by the impact of the time and the wind. Here we are going to realize a hike of about 30 minutes to the fabulous salt caves, enormous natural statues out of salt crystals that also have been formed by the time due to the high pressure and the lack of humidity in this desert.
One more time you will have the opportunity to enjoy the mystical desert while watching the sunset from the Great Dune in the Moon Valley. The beauty of the surprising geological figures, the majesty of the colors, the sound of the wind and the sun setting on the horizon will certainly touch you. After this probably most remarkable experience of the tour we will return to San Pedro de Atacama at around 20:30 o’clock.
Day 4. Altiplanic Lagoons – Toconao – Socaire – Jerez Valley
We leave San Pedro at 8:00am to start the sixteenth day of our tour. Our destination are the altiplanic lagoons Miñiques and Miscanti, natural sceneries of an intense blue color. To get there, we will take the route to Toconao, a colonial village with an unique architecture. All its buildings are made out of stone from volcanoes, so called Liparitas, including its old colonial church with its impressive bell tower.
Moving on, we will get to see the great peaks of the cordillera of the Andes at 4.300m over sea level on our way to the lagoons Miscanti and Miñiques, which approximately were formed a million years ago due to the eruption of the volcano Meñiques. This area is part of the National Reserve of the Flamingos, surrounded by impressive mountains and volcanoes that create an incomparable landscape.
You will have the privilege to enjoy the most beautiful panoramic view over the Jere Valley, located in the surroundings of the village Toconao. The sweet water that flows through this valley helps to establish an extraordinary flora, and also you will have a great view on the Andes on the horizon, marked by the silhouette of the volcano Lincancabur, the symbol of San Pedro de Atacama.
The trip goes on to the biggest treasure of the driest desert in the world, the impressive Salt Lake of the Atacama. Without doubt, this enormous lake with tons of salt implies an incredible majesty and a unique natural ambience. The intense color contrast and the numerous small canyons in this area will help to convert your trip into a lifetime experience. The salt lake of the Atacama is one of the biggest in Chile and also includes the main flamingo reserve of the country, the National Reserve of the Flamingos.
We will visit the pre-cordilleran village Socaire, where you can enjoy a great view over the white sea of the salt lake. Also, this town is known for its hadcrafts mainly made out of cow or llama wool. Here you will have the possibility to taste the typical food of the region. Surprise yourself with the fantastic lagoon Chaxa, a place where ducks, alpacas, vicuñas, foxes and ostriches live. And of course, there are pink flamingos at the shore and flying at the sky of the highland over the salt lake of the Atacama.
Finally we will reach our destination, the fabulous lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques that present a great variety of different colors. After experiencing this incredible places and enjoying a magic trip we will return to San Pedro de Atacama, one of the main tourist attractions in the world.
Day 5. Geysers del Tatio – Caspana - Lasana
The fifth day of our tour starts at 4:00am from the hotel. We will enter the cordillera to live one of the most fascinating experiences on this tour. One of the most impressive spectacles that offers the Atacama Desert, the Geysers del Tatio. This geothermic field is from volcanic origin and located at more than 4.000m over sea level. Here water and steam shoot high in the air and reach a temperature of about 85 ºC in the morning hours between 6:00 and 7:00am. The field includes more than 40 active geysers that actually represent 8% of all the active geysers in the world. Also you will find some thermal baths and a natural pool.
After appreciating this natural spectacle of stem columns, we will make our way to the city of Calama. On the route we are goint to stop in Caspana, located at the flanks of an impressive canyon in a fertile valley at an altitude of 3.305m. This natural paradise is known for its cultivated terraces and its beautiful architecture of origin Inca. Here you will get to know the symbol of this village, the marvelous bell tower that is more than 400 years old, without doubt an impressive colonial site of this little town.
Our next stop will be San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, a small town that was the first settlement on the river Loa in this area. Its main attraction is the interesting church that was constructed before 1675 and is known to be the most ancient church of Chile. This precious village is located in the middle of an oasis and its church, that is built out of adobe and cactus wood, was declared National Monument and makes this place a unique destination.
Afterwards we move on to beautiful petroglyphs, located around 10km from Chiu Chiu in the surroundings of the river. Here you can observe the relicts of the pre-hispanic art that were created from the year 400 onwards until the Spanish came to South America.
Also we will be visiting the fort of Lasana, a construction of the 12th century that also was declared National Monument. This indigenous fort is valued especially for its more than 100 stone constructions, and the privileged location of this ancient village convert it into a very beautiful place. After enjoying and getting to know a great part of the ancient culture of this area, we will have lunch in the restaurant of Lasana. Then we will return to San Pedro de Atacama.
Day 6. San Pedro de Atacama – Green Lagoon – Colored Lagoon
In the morning we will realize the transfer to the border station Hito Cajon (Chile – Bolivia), and after all the formalities we continue our expedition through the deserts in the south-east of Bolivia. We will enter the National Reserve of the Andean Fauna Eduardo Abaroa, where we will visit the Green Lagoon that is located at the foot of the volcano Lincancabur (5.800m) which form spart of the mountain range that marks the limit between Bolivia and Chile.
We will move on north and cross the desert Los Lipez, passing the Lagoon Polkes where, depending on the time, you can take a bath in its natural waters (38⁰C). Continuing our trip we will get to the geysers Sol de Mañana (Sun of the Morning) where you can observe impressive geothermic activities. Finally we reach the Colored Lagoon, containing the most important colony of Andean Flamingos of the National Reserve. Here you will find hundreds if not thousands of flamingos and other species of birds. The night we will spend in the desert Los Lipez.
Day 7. Desert Los Lipez – San Juan
The second day in Bolivia will take us further north to the Stone Tree (Árbol de Piedra), a famous rock formation. We will cross the region of the lagoons, discovering the lagoon Charkota, Hedionda y Cañapa where we can observe the precious fauna. In the afternoon we are going to arrive in the village of San Juan, passing the Salt Lake Chiguana, a native site in the desert Los Lipez. Night in San Juan.
Day 8. San Juan – Salt Lake Uyuni
Get to know the famous salt lake Uyuni, the biggest salt deposit in the world with an extension of more than 12.000 Km². This salt lake is of an enormous mineralogical richness, for example it contains 50% of the world reserve of lithium, a high valued metal. Also we will be visiting the Island Incahuasi and Lomo de Pescado that are full of giant cactuses which exist for more than thousand years. Here we are going to realize some small hikes where you get the possibility to reach the highes point of the islands to enjoy a great and fascinating view over the idyllic landscape of the salt lake and the surrounding mountains. We will spend the night in Uyuni or Colchani.
Day 9. Uyuni – La Paz
On our ninth day we will realize the transfer from Uyuni to La Paz, crossing the region of the river Mulatos, Sevaruyo and Huari. We will arrive in Oruro around noon. This mining city is famous for its carnival that was declared National Cultural Heritage a few years ago. In the afternoon we will continue the tour to La Paz, passing Sicaca Sica and Patacamaya. We will get to our destination in the late afternoon.
Day 10. La Paz
In the morning we will realize a guided tour through the city. La Paz is considered the highest administrative capital of the world, located at an altitude of 3.636m over sea level. We will visit the Plaza de Armas and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Nuestra Señora of La Paz, the viewing point Killi Killi, the Witch Market, Moon Valley and the residential districts. Afternoon free. The night we will spend in La Paz.
Day 11. La Paz – Copacabana – Island of the Sun
We will start the ninth day of our tour moving on to Copacabana. This town is sanctuary of the catholic and located at the shore of the Big Lake Titicaca about 150km from La Paz. In the afternoon we will take a boat to get to the Island of the Sun. Here we will visit the temple of Pilkokaina and the Spring of the Three Waters, an old ceremonial place of the Inca. Night in the commune Yumani on the island.
Day 12. Island of the Sun – Copacabana – Puno
After the breakfast we are going to realize a small hike across the island to enjoy the fabulous panoramic views over the Lake Titicaca and the Cordillera Real. On the route we will find various ancient ceremonial places like the Roca Sagrada (Holy Rock) or the Chincana. Later on we will return to Copacabana and make our way to Puno (Peru), where we will spend the night.
Day 13. Puno – Cusco
On our thirteenth day we transfer your from Puno to Cusco, visiting Pucara, La Raya which is the highest point on the route (4.300m over sea level) and the archaeological site Racchi on the way. Finally we will stop at the church Andahuaylillas before we get to the imperial city of Cusco. Accomodation in the hotel.
Day 14. Cusco and its surroundings
We will start our next day getting to know the city of Cusco and its most important archaeological sites. In the morning we will take a guided tour though the city, visiting the main market square, the cathedral and its colonial art, afterwards we will vist the Temple of the Sun, also known as the Koricancha. We will finish the city tour with a walk through the most symbolic streets of Cusco. In the afternoon we are going to realize a tour to the forts Sacsayhuman, Kenko, Pukara and the Tambo Machay, the most important archaeological sites in the area. The night we will spend in Cusco again.
Day 15. Holy Valley of the Incas
We will leave Cusco to visit the Holy Valley of The Incas. On the way we will stop in the village of Chinchero, located at 28km of Cusco. This town contains a colonial church and an internationally known handcrafts market. We will move on to Pisac visiting its archaeological site that is one of the most important in the region, and finally we get to the fort of Ollantaytambo, a huge ancient fort on the peak of a hill. Here we will spend the night.
Day 16. Machupicchu
On the sixteenth day of the tour you will be able to discover the famous Machupicchu. We will take the train to Aguas Calientes in the morning. From there a bus takes us to Machupicchu, where we will realize a guided tour of about 2 ½ hours. Afterwards you will have enough time to explore the ruins if you like. We will return on the same way we came, arriving in Cusco at the end of the day.
Day 17. Cusco – Lima
In the morning we will transfer you to the airport of Cusco, where you take the flight to Lima. In Lima you will be awaited at the airport and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon you can get to know the city via a guided tour, visiting the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the government palace. Afterwards we will realize a walk through the street of Lima where you can appreciate the beautiful balconies and also we will enter the San Francisco Abbey. Finally we will get to know the district Miraflores, before we return to the hotel. Night in Lima.
Day 18. Transfer to the Airport
At the indicated time the transfer to the airport is realized.
