Day 1. Arica - Socoroma - Putre.
After the pick up from your hostel we leave for the local market el Agro and make a visit to Azapa valley to see the world's oldest mummy at the Azapa museum. Geo glyphs, fertile soils in the valley Lluta, the village of Poconchile, chandelier cactuses Pukara de Copaquilla show them selves on our zig zag road into the Altiplano. We enjoy lunch at Zapahuira, visit Socoroma and in the afternoon reach our destination Putre.
Day 2. Putre - National Park Lauca - Arica. On our way to Park Lauca a small walk at the caves, observing the flora and fauna, the views from Chucuyo and Lake Cotacotani decorate our Altiplano experience. Visiting the village of Parinacota is another Altiplano delight and next; at 4500 meters we get to Lake Chungara which is the highlight of Park Lauca. After close looks at the birdlife and lunch has been digested a relaxing dip at the hot springs of Jurasi bring us on our way back to Putre where we arrive in the late afternoon. Day 3. Putre - Desert Surire - National Park Isluga - Colchane. In the morning we leave Putre to go to the National reserve Vicunas and before we get to the Salt Lake at 4.200 meters at mid day, we visit the picturesque village of Guallatire. During this trip we make various photo stops to enjoy the scenery and make some small hikes. In the early afternoon we visit the hot springs of Polloquere and enter the National Park Isluga where we visit Lake Aravilla and stop at the Altiplano villages of Enquelga and Isluga. Before night fall we reach Colchane where we spend the night. Day 4: Colchane - giants of the Atacama - Pica. In the morning we leave from Colchane and on our route to our lunch spot in Huara we have a proper look at the giants of the Atacama; some cactuses of 5 meters high and visit the Altiplano villages of Cariquima wich is famous for its traditional knitting since ages and Chusmiza. In the afternoon we visit the museum of Humberstone and Santa Laura and our trips ends in Pica around 19.00 hours where dinner and accommodation are waiting for us. Day 5: Pica - San Pedro de Atacama. Leaving Pica we visit the painted geoglyphs which contain around 400 figures en 66 panels in which humans, animals, birds and abstract drawings can be seen. From here we go towards National Reserve Pampa del Tamarugal and the small village of Quillagua which is an oasis next to the river Loa. In Quillagua we have a look at their cultivations, the church, railway station and the customs building. After lunch we cross the desert and arrive at San Pedro de Atacama.
